“A Contact with Futura”. Students of the “Sol Plaatje Primary School” of Mafikeng meet via radio italian astronaut Samantha Christoforetti.

Saturday, 2nd of May 2015, at 4.34 PM, more than 30 students of the “Sol Plaatje Primary School” of Mafikeng had the extraordinary opportunity to talk to the Italian Astronaut Captain Samantha Cristoforetti, the first Italian woman in space currently on board of the International Space Station for the mission “Futura”.

The event has been organized by the Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, in cooperation with the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement-National Research Foundation (SAASTA-NRF), the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) and the Southern African Amateur Radio Satellite Association (SA AMSAT).

Thus, the South African students had the possibility to talk to Captain Samantha Cristoforetti, together with the students of the Italian Secondary School of Caprino Bergamasco (BG), at the same time in contact with the Astronaut.  Furthermore, the two schools spoke together through a Skype connection: an important occasion to know each other and share the exceptional experience.
